Russia Unleashes Massive Overnight Drone Assault on Ukraine, Killing 2

Russia attacks Ukraine overnight with 600 drones. Two civilians killed in one of the largest aerial assaults of the war.

A large-scale Russia drone attack on Ukraine occurred overnight, killing two civilians and damaging critical infrastructure. Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces launched nearly 600 drones in a coordinated aerial assault. The attack is considered one of the biggest since the start of the invasion.

Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro Targeted

Russian drones targeted key cities including Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro. Air raid sirens echoed throughout the night. Ukraine’s air defense teams managed to intercept many of the drones. However, the massive number of drones allowed some to bypass the defenses.

The drones, mostly Iranian-made Shahed types, caused fires and structural damage. Residential buildings and energy systems were hit. Emergency responders rushed to affected areas, rescuing victims and putting out fires.

Ukrainian Forces Respond Quickly

General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian military, described the attack as “a deliberate act of air terrorism.” He confirmed that Ukrainian forces destroyed most of the drones, but the remaining ones still caused serious harm.

Despite the response, the number of drones overwhelmed local defenses. As a result, two civilians lost their lives and dozens of buildings were damaged.

Global Reactions and Calls for Support

International leaders condemned the Russia drone attack on Ukraine. NATO and EU members urged swift action and called for increased military support to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.

President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the nation. He demanded faster deliveries of modern defense systems and reiterated that Ukraine must be protected from future attacks.

Escalation Signals a New Phase in the War

Military analysts believe Russia is intensifying its drone warfare strategy to weaken Ukraine’s energy infrastructure before winter. This tactic aims to lower civilian morale and disrupt public services.

In recent weeks, drone attacks have grown in frequency and scale. The latest incident shows that the conflict continues to escalate, with no clear end in sight.
